This is the question I dread the most! How can I pick? It is like asking list your 5 books for the desert island.
I will read just about any historical (I must have lived a past life) but enjoy Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Stephanie Laurens, Sara Bennett, Elizabeth Boyle, Candice Hern, Julieanne MacLean, Sabrina Jeffries, Nicole Jordan and so many more, so I had better stop my list now. Although I will probably agree with anyone else's list!

Ok, what books would you bring to a desert island? (They have to be new releases that you haven't read yet..try to list 5).
I'll think of my list! ;-)

Noooo. I can't do it. I need a suitcase full of books! I did actually forget three of my favourites - Anna Campbell, Elizabeth Hoyt and Anne Gracie. I like the darkenss of Anna, the complexity of Anne's and Elizabeth's characters.
Books for the desert Island - Can we make 5 authors and their entire set of books we would take?!

hey ladies! I agree with you, Heather K--I can't imagine having to pick only 5 books to take to a deserted island. I have crates full that I haul with me wherever I go :o)
For the five I haven't yet read, that would have to be:
1) Devil May Cry
2) Upon the Midnight Clear
3) Dreamchaser
all by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I've gotten behind in my fan-dom since I have no money, but that just means I can read them all in one week without wait!
4) Untamed-Hope Tarr (Vanquished was one of my most favorites ever)
5) The upcoming Let Sleeping Rogues Lie by Sabrina Jeffries
I thought An Affair before Christmas was really cute! And I loved The Wicked Ways of a Duke! Laura Lee Guhrke's books are always wonderful and never disappoint!
I like your question about the 5 authors as well! It's a tough one, but which would you choose??

I have to say not all my authors would be historical.. so here is the list.
1. Anna Campbell
2. Anne Gracie
3. JR Ward
4. Sherrilyn Kenyon / Kinley MacGregor (does this count? they are the same person and such a catalogue!)
5. Diana Gabaldon
This was very tough as there are so many good authors I missed. Maybe I can say I'll take e-books of all of my favourite authors and it will really save space!!

Hi everyone! It's nice to see the Romance Book Club is back!! I LOVE historical romances, too.I must have lived a past live as well. My husband says he can't tell if I was born 100 years to late or 500 years to late!! :) My favorite authors are some of the older authors: Kathleen E. Woodwiss, Rosemary Rogers, early Johanna Lindsay and Jude Deveraux, Brenda Joyce, early Heather Graham. I've started a new hobby collecting older historicals written around the early 1980's. The writing style is very different from today's authors. I feel like it's more detailed, and a bit more accurate. Today's readers have evolved to what I feel is something more generic, almost like the characters are in ballgowns and ride horse and that makes a historical romance. I love the action, the detail of these authors. Even the artwork on the covers of books have changed!!
Favorites: The Wolf and the Dove and The Flame and the Flower and Shanna-Kathleen Woodwiss
A Pirate's Love-Johanna Lindsay
Captive Passion and Captive Embraces-Fern Michaels
Rememberance-Jude Deveraux
I still have some of the original copywrited editions that I've saved since High School (I know I'm totally a historical Romance Geek!)

I can't believe I have found others like myself. Everyone always teases me that I am from a different period of time! I am fairly new to historical romances with only a year or so under my belt. Every day life has kept me from being able to read as much as I would like. Thanks for all the author suggestions. I can't wait to hit the local library and bookstore. My favorites are Julia Quinn and Jude Deveraux. I can't wait to jump into the world of others. My favorite time period is the 1800s. Let me know if anyone has any great suggestions that they can't live without!

Have you read Jude Deveraux's Remembrance?? It was one of the first romances I read and it's still one of my all-time faves!

Remembrance is the book that got me started on historical romances. The second was Legend! I love the aspect of traveling back in time. I lose all sense of time when I read. I, alos, absolutely love the Bridgertons from Julia Quinn. Does anyone have any specific recommendations along these story lines?

Julie Garwood, is my all time favorite Historical Romance author. Her female leads are usually funny and strong, and her male leadas are just dreamy!!
I also love Brenda Joyce. Check out some of her old stuff like "The Game", you will stay up all night reading it.

Has anyone read books by Loretta Chase? The synopsis of some of her books sound intriguing & I'm wondering if I should get them (limited budget!).

Linda - yes, I have read many books by Loretta Chase and I love them. The last book that I read by her was "Not Quit A Lady", and it is now on my keeper shelf. I like Ms. Chase because her heros don't usually fit the mold, and some of her books make you laugh out loud. She has a lot of older stuff out there that is very good also. It should be easy for you to find some of her books. J

the very best book i have ever read and could not possibly live without is SHANNA by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. It was the first historical romance I ever read at age 14, and the very best out of the hundreds ive read since, and I'm 44 now, and she is the most incredible historical romance author you will ever find. read this, or any of hers and you will be hooked for life. Sadly, she passed away last year. but please try one of hers and let me know how you like it.

I have always loved Virginia Henley, Iris Johansen (her historicals), Brenda Joyce, Cheryl Holt, and Jo Beverly.
I tend to like sexy characters, historical backdrops and intrigue. All these authors bring that to the table.
Let me know what you like!
